FAQs

Three weeks left for the Neu Guide to Charleston entries! If you are confused, uninspired, or just curious.. here is some information that may help you:

Q: Hey fella, what is this “Neu Guide to Charleston” thing?

A: It will be a guide to Charleston, SC as told through locals’ creative memoirs. Instead of a typical travel guide approach, we are going for something a little more creative and personal. If it is art or literature, a literal or abstract depiction of a location in Charleston or even creatively derived from somewhere in Charleston, it qualifies! We need pieces that will inspire readers to go visit those places (think big creative map..).

Q: What kind of publication will it be?

A: It will be published in book form and hardcover.. also limited edition!

Q: Will it be printed in color?

A: Definitely!

Q: How recent does my work need to be?

A: If it is art or literature that has been created in the last couple of years, that’s fine by us! But PLEASE be sure to include the location referenced in your artwork and the dimensions (if art) with your submission.

Q: I submitted work and havent heard back, what gives?

A: We are going to review all entries together after December 15th, so expect to be dropped a line then.

Q: When will this book be on the shelves?

A: Also yet to be determined, we hope to see it in your hands by Spring of 2011.

Q: Is this the only kind of book Surcee Press will be publishing?

A: No way, dude! This is merely the beginning, we will be publishing cook books, craft books, writing collectives, and novels all from places/people here/far. We will also be hand making journals and sketch books!

Q: What kind of entries have you received thus far?

A: We can’t give away all of our juicy details yet, but we understand a handful of examples may help guide you in your submission process. We have received art in all mediums, styles, and subjects.. some locations being local swimming holes, murals, nature preserves, historical sites, installations, etc etc. We have also been sent a few short stories, poems, and essays. So as you can see, there is plenty of variety. So much local talent it’s incredible..
